De Surinaamse Limburger Jo Hameleers is een getalenteerd schilder, met een fascinatie voor fotografie, waarvan hij veel verzameld heeft. Op zijn website zegt hij het volgende over zichzelf:

‘I am a Dutch painter, selftaught. I deliberately avoid what is usually referred to as a ‘personal style’. Once upon a time ‘art’ was used to cast a spell. I consider an old cave-drawing to be the fossile of a magical act. I prefer to work in silence, at night, surrounded by original paintings and images by other artists. Look. It is only by looking that something happens.’
